California Queer History, the nonprofit organization running the Orange County Queer History Project, was established in 2023 as a digital humanities project to preserve, archive, and share the rich and diverse narratives of queer history within the State of California. Helps us archive, educate, and share programs by and for the queer communities of California. Your help sustains our work and allows us to reach a broad audience! CQH’s mission is to empower individuals and communities by legitimizing and celebrating the historical contributions of queer individuals throughout California. Your donation may be used for the following:

  • Archiving materials pertinent to queer activism in California
  • Conducting oral history interviews with Californian queer activists in order to preserve their history, and transcribing these interviews and making content within them publicly available, with interviewee permission
  • Creating digital maps of important sites in California queer history and an interactive timeline of significant events in local queer history
  • Creating physical and digital exhibits on significant organizations, people, and events in California queer history
  • Spreading the word about California’s rich queer history through speaking engagements and presentations
  • Working alongside of the local queer communities to document and preserve queer history throughout California
